Private PoolHot TubPrivate ChefBeach AccessSea View

Villa Anacaona is a beachfront estate on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, set within eleven acres of tropical gardens a short drive from Cabrera. It sleeps up to 35 guests across nineteen en-suite suites, most with king beds, private decks and ocean or garden views, and several with a plunge pool and hot tub of their own. The scale is considerable: around 80,000 square feet of living space wrapped around communal and private pools, with a double-height living hall, a carved marble fireplace lounge and columned terraces that open to the sea. The estate runs as a fully staffed, all-inclusive retreat, with a team covering housekeeping, a private chef, a driver and spa therapists. Days can be spent on the tennis and squash courts, in the indoor basketball court, the home cinema, the games room or the wellness centre and spa, then rounded off with alfresco dining beneath the lanai. Two full kitchens and two formal dining areas seat large groups with ease, and the grounds sit within a gated community with round-the-clock security. Cabrera suits travellers who want space, privacy and a genuine Caribbean setting rather than a resort strip. It works equally well for a multi-generational gathering, a milestone celebration or a group of friends taking the whole house. Samana International Airport is roughly 45 minutes away.

December to April is the dry season on the north coast, with warm sunny days, calmer seas and the lowest chance of rain, ideal for the beach and the pools.

The north coast is at its best from December to April, the dry season, when days are warm and sunny, the sea is calm and rainfall is lowest. Spring holds much of that weather with fewer visitors. Summer and autumn are hotter and more humid and fall within the wider hurricane season, which brings the quietest demand and the keenest rates for flexible travellers.

Why we chose it

We chose Villa Anacaona for the rare combination of scale, staffing and setting. Very few Caribbean houses can host 35 guests in nineteen en-suite suites while still feeling private, and fewer still pair that with a beachfront position and eleven acres of gardens. The all-inclusive, fully staffed model does the organising for you, from the private chef to the activities planner, which matters when a group is this size. The breadth of facilities, tennis, squash, a home cinema, a spa and heated pools, means guests of every age have somewhere to be. For a large celebration on the Dominican north coast, it is one of the most complete estates we have found.

01The Architecture

Villa Anacaona is a Mediterranean-style estate that spreads across roughly 80,000 square feet within an eleven-acre beachfront plot. Cream stone facades, rounded arches and carved columns give the buildings a Spanish colonial character, topped with terracotta-tiled roofs and framed by mature royal palms. The scale is unusual even among large Caribbean houses: nineteen en-suite suites are arranged around courtyards and…

02The Interior

Inside, the mood is opulent yet relaxed. The main living hall rises two storeys beneath a wrought-iron chandelier, with polished marble floors, plastered walls and a carved marble fireplace framing a formal lounge. Furnishings mix textured neutral sofas with dark carved timber, antiques and large orchid arrangements, and stained-glass panels throw colour across the stone. Each of the nineteen suites…

03The Outdoor

The eleven-acre grounds are the heart of the estate. A large freeform pool with an integrated spa sits at the centre, joined by further communal and private heated pools, several hot tubs and long travertine sun terraces set with loungers and shaded daybeds. Covered lanai pavilions with stone columns open directly to the pool and sea, giving sheltered space for…

04The Location

Villa Anacaona sits on the edge of Cabrera, a quiet town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic within the María Trinidad Sánchez province. This stretch of coast is known for clifftop scenery and some of the country's finest beaches, yet it sees far fewer visitors than the resort strips further west. Playa Grande, an arc of pale sand…

05Ideal For

With nineteen en-suite suites, room for 35 and a full staff, Villa Anacaona is built for large private gatherings: multi-generational family holidays, milestone celebrations, wedding parties and groups of friends taking the whole estate. Children are well catered for, with connecting kids suites and space to roam. It is less suited to couples after a small, intimate hideaway, as the…
